Teach Homeschool Kindergarten with Ease

Learn ways to teach homeschool kindergarten with ease to your son or daughter. This time should be an opportunity to stimulate, enlighten, and encourage your child as they start a more deliberate process of learning.

However, deliberate should not imply boring or less enjoyable than their experiences in preschool lessons.

Getting Started

Before you start homeschooling your young learner, you need to gather all the necessary facts about homeschooling in your particular state.

It may not be your intent to follow a specific course of study for your state but you should strive to comply with their homeschooling laws to the best of your ability.

I have been able to abide by our laws and still exercise my personal and spiritual objectives for our children.

The Basics

In many cases, the homeschooling requirements at this grade level will look like this:

  • Basic Math or Arithmetic that introduces counting, money, telling time, and similar concepts
  • Social Studies which introduces them to the world around them and the people who help us
  • Physical Education/Movement/Social Skills that allows them to express themselves with dance, songs, movement, and communication
  • Language Arts/Speaking which introduces the alphabet, letter sounds, and proper ways to express themselves like saying "Thank you" and "Good-morning"
  • Health/Science/Nature Study which introduces animals, plants, seasons, weather and proper care of their bodies

My advice to you as you begin teaching during this time is to keep the program as simple as possible.

Of course, I'm not suggesting that you "dumb down" your instruction. Never! By all means, encourage and stimulate your eager, young student as much as possible.

I caution all parents to avoid the temptation to overdo it with homeschool curriculum, homeschool lesson plans or overzealous teaching at this critical period.

Always check to be certain that instructional times are: brief, enjoyable, and varied in your methods. Remember, the goal is that you and your child should enjoy this introduction to "formal" teaching.
